Above Ground Premium Series Artists’ Acrylic – Featured Artists

Our Artists’ Acrylic is a brand-new line, created to replace our previous acrylic range. After careful development and hands-on testing, we’re excited to share it with you. We are confident it will earn a place in your practice.

To put these paints to the test beyond our own studio, we reached out to local artists you may already know and admire, inviting them to create work using our Premium Series Artists’ Acrylic and share their honest feedback. This post will continue to grow as more artists join in, so be sure to check back for updates.

Crafted for Artists. Priced for All.

Created and produced by the world’s leading artist paint manufacturer, the Premium Series Artists’ Acrylic offers the level of craftsmanship typically reserved for professional-grade paints, while remaining accessible to artists at every stage of their practice.

The range includes 49 carefully curated colours!

Colours shown are approximate. Actual colours may vary due to differences in screen settings and display devices.

Each colour has been rigorously tested by our in-house team of professional artists to ensure it meets the performance, consistency, and quality standards expected of the Above Ground Premium Series.

But don’t just take our word for it. Below, you’ll find featured artists who have put these acrylics to work in their own practice.

"Overall, the positives of the paint were that it was easy to blend colours. Most pigments were quite opaque. Paint had great movement gliding across the canvas with ease.

I was able to achieve the vibrancy that I love to see in my work and I would definely recommend this paint to other artists out there."

Kevin Bae

"I am really impressed with the overall quality and viscosity of the paint. They work well, colour mixing is excellent with a high tinting quality. It’s clear to see the difference between the pigment that contains cadmiums, heavy metal, mineral pigment vs synthetic pigments. So I can see the clear strength of the pigments from this demonstration."

Chaeboogak

"I was genuinely impressed by the colour strength. When mixing colours, the pigmentation felt strong and confident, without a noticeable drop in intensity. The paint also didn’t dry too quickly, which made it much easier to control moisture and work comfortably. I really enjoyed using all the colours I tried: Titanium White, Primary Red, Primary Blue, Lemon Yellow, and Burnt Umber. Each one felt reliable and satisfying to work with. Using these paints made me curious to try even more colours. To explore them more fully, I experimented with slightly different styles while painting."

"Painting with Above Ground Premium Series Artists’ Acrylics has been a real joy, and they’ve quickly become a favourite in my studio. The colours are rich, vibrant, and effortless to work with—whether I’m laying down bold strokes or building soft, transparent layers through glazing.

What I appreciate most is the balance between transparency and solid coverage. It gives me the control to shape light, depth, and movement as each piece comes together, layer by layer. The whole process feels intuitive and deeply rewarding.

Highly recommend for artists who love colour that feels alive on the canvas."

Ash Katsumi

"I haven’t used acrylics in a very long time, however when above ground came out with its premium acrylic paints, I knew that I wanted to try. The colours were so bright and vibrant that I knew I wanted to make a piece that reflected just how bright and playful the colours were. The application was extremely smooth and forgiving, which I loved because I make a lot of mistakes during my painting process. They are extremely rich in both colour and coverage, making them easy to work with. I absolutely loved these paints and I am excited to reach for them again, especially in my sketchbook as it dries down easily and leaves an absolutely beautiful finish!"

Camilla Teodoro

"I tested Above Ground’s Artists’ Acrylics on both a hardwood and softwood surface–the former being used in this project. On a hardwood surface, specifically on oak, opaque pigments performed well with the exception of sap green. Upon the first stroke, sap green is transparent and streaky compared to another opaque colour like cerulean blue. In total, I layered three coats of sap green to achieve an opaque finish. Interestingly, the acrylic paints on oak had a glossy finish, whereas on a surface like plywood, the paints had an almost matte finish. I would be curious to try the line of acrylic paints again on a primed piece of plywood, as opposed to oak which had a slippery surface.

Working with these acrylics, I found that the colours were highly pigmented, the paint had a smooth texture that was a breeze to work with, and it adhered well to wood surfaces. Even without a wet paper pad, the acrylics did not dry out quickly. Overall, Above Ground’s line of Artists’ Acrylics are a solid introduction to acrylic paints!"
